What is Dao Liao (Knife Massage Therapy)?
Dao Liao,
or Knife Massage Therapy, has a 2500 year history, originating in China. In the past, monks in temples utilized it as
natural therapy to cure illnesses.
Currently, it is only practiced in Taiwan
by practitioners in the World Public Welfare Association, a public service
organization based in Taipei,
Taiwan.
Dao
Liao’s primary function is to provide a qi
(life force energy) exchange. As such,
it is a form of Qigong and uses a light force.
Beneficial effects of this qi
exchange and energy field transformation are numerous: Relaxation of body and mind; increased
circulation and lymphatic function; relief of bodily aches and pains; cellular
rejuvenation; balance of the body’s internal heat and cold state; improved
quality of sleep; reduction of body fat and water retention; clear and open
energy channels and pressure points. Dao
Liao can also address problems such as hypertension, cardiovascular problems,
stress, insomnia and immunity deficiencies, among others.
Dao
Liao practitioners follow a daily practice of meditation, exercise, qi gong and
vegetarianism. This allows the body and
spirit to be a clean and empty conduit for the qi from the Universe to enter and exit.
Dao
Liao is different from a regular massage in that its effects are deeper and
more holistic. Whereas a regular massage
focuses on specific areas of the physical body, Dao Liao addresses the whole
system’s physical and energy field balance.
Initially,
most people are afraid of the knives when they first see them. However, the knives used are dull and feel
very comfortable when used on the muscles and nerve points.
There
have been many cases where clients with untreatable or undiagnosable illnesses
were cured by the Dao Liao therapy. Many
success stories have led to Dao Liao to be considered a miracle therapy.
